Excerpt of Fatal Obsession, Book 2 of The Black Widows Series

This book has been a long time coming. After the release of Fatal Jealousy in 2013, many readers even my editor asked if there was going to be a sequel because apparently the epilogue suggested there might me and all I was doing was ending a book with a little suspense. I had no intention of writing another one.

Well, never say never. Fatal Obsession is about Ellsa, giving her an out for being so evil. And of course the ‘coincidental’ meeting between Dale and Ellie. Ellsa set her sister up on a blind date with Dale Carson only the Dale Carson that showed up was the wrong one. Yup, too easy.

Ellsa Jabari, is explained in this book, the reasons behind all her actions and murders are revealed including the date she set up for her twin sister with Dale. Also in this book, we meet more of Dale’s family including his cousin Damien Chan, Ellsa’s love interest.

After a hot weekend with a mysterious woman, Damien Chan did not expect to get a frightened phone call from her, begging him to save–what? who? The call is cut before she says it. The next thing he knows, he’s become obsessed with finding her and saving her from the man that had led to their first meeting. But he never expected to find her in his cousin Dale Carson’s house… as his wife!

She finds out her nightmares are actually memories of her past life… the life of a murderer. Could she truly be the deranged Ellsa Jabari who’d almost added her own sister Ellie to the list of people she’s killed?

Amnesia can be a real bitch!

Excerpt

. “Who is this?” Damien hissed.

Dale sat up straight in his seat and stared hard at Damien. “Dude, what’s up? You look like you’re about to blow.”

Damien couldn’t have said it better himself. He was about to blow like a fucking atomic bomb. “Who is this?” he yelled.

“My wife, Ellie, now tell me what’s wrong with you!” Dale yelled back.

If he hadn’t been sitting, he would have been on the floor on his ass by now. She married his cousin? This couldn’t be happening, it just couldn’t be possible. “I want to see her, I need to see her!”

Dale’s eyes widened. “Calm down man. You’re getting hysterical.”

Damien dropped the wallet and combed his fingers through his long messy hair. Hell, he was losing his mind!

 ****

As he drove, Dale kept stealing side glances at his cousin. Damien fidgeted in his seat like he had ants in his pants and when he wasn’t doing that his knee bounced incessantly, his fingers drumming in the same fast tempo on the armrest. His jaw clenched and unclenched, his eyes darting around. Add that to his long curly brown hair, the bush on his face and his clothes that looked like they hadn’t seen water in weeks, he looked like a bum high on drugs and nothing like his cousin.

Hero Damien Chan, the genius ladies man that Dale knew, was always particular about his looks. He was always clean shaven or kept a light buzz around his mouth—something he had on good authority from numerous ladies that it made him look even more the heartbreaker when he smiled. His hair was always trimmed short, a closer shave on the sides of his head than the top. His clothes were always neat, straight and pressed that sometimes Dale wondered if he ever moved around especially as a cop. No cop looked as impeccable as he did by the end of a long day. But now he looked like a bum—a junkie bum—and he was sure Ellie was going to flip the second they stepped into the house. The kids were always home with Ellie after she took a sabbatical after Ellsa’s escape from the psych prison. Now, she always had her guard up, more around people they were acquainted with than strangers. She didn’t want to falsely trust someone else again who’ll end up helping Ellsa steal one of the kids, again.

Everything inside Dale told him to stop the car and demand why Damien wanted so badly to see his wife, but he knew his cousin well enough to know he wasn’t going to utter a word until he got what he wanted. Stubborn ass.

It wasn’t long until Dale pulled into the driveway of his year old home. They had just moved into a two-story five bedroom house when they’d gotten word of Ellsa’s escape. It dampened their new lease on life and turned their new home into just another safe house, a location Ellsa knew nothing about, since she hadn’t shown up yet. But soon Dale would find his crazy sister-in-law and put her back where she belonged and he and his family could go back to living a nightmare free life.

Dale hadn’t even gotten the car to a complete stop when Damien jumped out, running for the house. The locked door kept him from rushing in and he turned around to glare impatiently at Dale. Both Dale’s brows shot up to his hairline.

Fuck! What the hell have I just brought to my home?

He stalled in the car, watching Damien keenly, suddenly not willing to let him near his family. He wasn’t going to have another case of Ellsa in his home. He would drag him back into the car…

The door swung open and Damien turned to face it. Ellie stared at him curiously, shifting a questioning look at Dale before turning back to Damien with a hesitant ‘hi’.

Dale couldn’t see Damien’s face, but he heard him loud and clear from where he sat in the car a few feet away from them.

“I finally found you,” his voice so tender it broke Dale’s heart, right before his anger flared when Damien grabbed Ellie and kissed her on the lips.

“What the fuck!” Dale yelled, jumping out of the car and running to them.

 ****

Damien sat on the love seat opposite Dale and Ellie on the couch and just stared at the object of his five-year obsession. He couldn’t believe he found her at last and in his cousin’s home no less. The anger of knowing that she shared Dale’s bed almost overshadowed the joy of seeing her again—almost. But how could he be angry as he stared into those lovely brown eyes that were wide with alarm? The pink glossed lips—the lower one being worried between her teeth—that he remembered so vividly kissing until there were swollen. They were red then, full and red and ever so seductive. The chewing of the lower lip was new though. She used to roll it inside her mouth when she was nervous and also when she was thinking. But it had been five years and she was bound to change. He certainly had, though not for the best.

Damien’s gaze dropped to her lap, where her hands lay—the right one palm to palm with Dale’s and the left sitting atop the joined ones, two rings on her third finger, the diamonds glittering against the sun rays coming through the window behind him. It irked him seeing his cousin’s mark of possession on her hand, but he wouldn’t dwell on that. He stared at her face again and noticed her hair, though still in curls, was short, reaching right above her shoulders.

With a shaky smile he said, “You cut your hair.”

She exchanged a frightened look with Dale before she nodded slowly. “Yes. It’s much easier to handle with two toddlers.”

His body went rigid and he bit down on his jaw in an effort to calm himself. Exploding in a jealous rage would be the wrong way to handle this situation. He needed to be patient. To get her alone and… and what? He hadn’t really thought past finding her and now that he had her right in front of him… He sat up straight with a new resolve. Now that he had her he was determined to have her back in his arms. She was his first!

He caught Dale’s eyes, narrowed in warning. Damien could practically feel his rage radiate off him in large waves toward him, but he didn’t care. He’d searched for so long, lost so much along the way, including part of his sanity, to just wish them a happy life and walk away.

Turning fully to Ellie, he asked, “How old are they?”

Swiping her lips twice with her tongue—another new nervous habit—she answered, “Stacey-Ann is two and a half and Third—Dale James—is one and a half. Their birthdays are two weeks apart.”

Though she was smiling, Damien caught a spark of hurt in her eyes. Why would the dates of their birth cause her pain? Dale, too, had that look for only a second before he drew his wife closer for a comforting hug. It took all that was inside Damien not to rip them apart.

“Ellie, could I speak to you for a minute—in private?” Damien stressed the last part.

Dale slowly pulled away from her and rose off the couch, seething. “No way in hell is that happening!”

Damien stood too, his anger getting the best of him. “What’s the matter Little D? Scared she’ll come back to me?”

“I was never with you,” her voice, though soft, was strong. She stood, taking Dale’s hand in hers in a show of solidarity as she stared at him with pity in her eyes. “I’m sorry but I think you have me confused with someone else.”

He slashed his hand through the air. “No, I’m not confusing you with anyone else!”

With sad eyes, Ellie looked up at Dale before turning back to him. “I do have an identical twin sister. People were confusing us for each other all the time. You’re probably—probably thinking about Ellsa.”

“Hell no! I’ve heard what Ellsa is like and she’s definitely not my Victoria Secret. But you are. I know I’m not wrong!”

He took a desperate step towards her, but Dale quickly shifted her behind him, shielding her with his body. He then held his hand up to Damien to keep him from moving any closer.

“Listen Middle D, we’ve already gone through and survived one psycho relative and it’s not an experience I’m willing to repeat. Nor is it one I’m willing to permit my family to endure again. Do you understand me?”

Damien stared down his cousin, the threat and the outstretched arm the only things keeping him where he stood. He understood alright and he couldn’t say he blamed Dale. If it were his family, he would do the same, but…

“She’s mine—”

“No, she’s not!”

Paying for free eBooks with a Review

download (3)

I read an article that said free eBooks are the devil and I must confess the writer is right. It’s the devil because it encourages readers not to pay for books. All they have to do is, wait until there is a promotion where the book will be free and download it.

I admit I’m one of the culprits. But there is a way to make it less of an evil.

Most authors make their books free for a limited amount of time or indefinitely so that they can reach as many readers as possible in an effort to make their name and work known to the reader community. The freebies create a huge dent in the authors and/or publishers wallet because they make minimal or no profit from the work they slaved over just to entertain the many readers worldwide.

This industry is a difficult one to survive in especially for those who depend on book sales to earn a living. And we must congratulate not only the talent but also the dedication these authors have to keep at this. Your review as a reader will influence someone to pay for that book. So pay for your freebies with a review and support these authors.

An interview with Maria Martinez Greer, star of novel Star Bright

Tred paint backgroundoday on my blog I am joined by Maria Greer whose life story is told in the inspirational romance novel Star Bright by Christina OW. She talks about her life after the abuse she faced at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Ricky and the happiness she’s found with her husband Dave.

Star Bright is a wonderful book that keeps you at the edge of your seat with each page you turn. It’s quite staggering and disturbing that this story is based on someone’s life- Maria’s. What’s more frightening is that there are thousands of women out there in the world going through the same thing.

But we are here today on a more uplifting note, to discuss Maria’s journey from hell to her own kind of heaven. Without further delay, let the interview begin.

Host:   Maria, I’m glad you could join me today. Honestly, I’m quite surprised that you agreed to this interview.

Maria: Thanks for having me. To be quite honest with you, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for        Dave. A year ago, I wouldn’t have agreed to this but… (She pushes her hair behind her ear) well, I’m sure you’ll ask me about that later on.

Host:  Yes. I would like to start from the beginning (Maria fidgets in her seat) How is your relationship with your father? Have you moved past feeling abandoned?

Maria: (A shadow of a smile on her lips) we’ve seen him twice these past few years, during the Christmas holidays. Christmas in Cancun is wonderful and seeing my mom makes it even better. (Dave coughs behind me and I notice a sudden change in Maria) Though I rarely see him we talk as much as we possibly can. We are taking it one day at a time. I’m new to the whole father-daughter relationship.

Host:   You mentioned Christmas in Mexico, does this mean Dave won the bet? (The heavy chuckle behind me made Maria glare, but it was evident she was suppressing a smile).

Maria: Let’s not inflate his ego further. Next question please.

Host:  (I laugh) Okay. How are Michael and precious Izzy?

Maria: (her smile beams happily) they are wonderful. Michael is our little genius. Dave thinks in a year or two they’d have to skip him a few grades to keep his interests focused on school. And Izzy is in preschool and loving every day of it.

Host:  That’s great to hear especially knowing what they’ve gone through. But what I’d really like to know is how their relationship is with Miguel?

Maria: He is a wonderful grandfather. The way they are around him, you’d think Miguel had been present since day one.

Host: And Dave, how does he feel about that relationship?

Maria: (she shakes her head) Ah ah. I know where you are going with this. I’m not discussing that. Enough was reveal in the book.

Host: Okay… hey! A journalist can hope. Back to you, how are things with your muy caliente lawyer?

Maria: (she blushes, fiddling with the rings on her left hand finger) I think you can take a guess. He is wonderful and nothing like… (She stiffens and visibly swallows) like Ricky.

Host:  I know he’s a tough subject to discuss but, would you tell us about your life with him, with Ricky? (Maria’s hands tremble on her lap. It’s shocking to see the effect Ricky still has on her. She then looks up and behind me and the trembling stops. It’s wonderful to see Dave’s effect on her)

Maria: In a word, it was hell. I wouldn’t wish it on any woman. Living in fear for so long (she rubs her arms, her eyes gaining a distant look) I lost myself… my self-esteem. I forgot how it felt to live without fear, who I was, what I loved, my hopes, my dreams. I was completely consumed with fear and I became a woman I didn’t recognize, and even now back to the woman I used to be before Ricky, I still don’t recognize her but I understand her. (She looks at me, straight in the eye with a hard gaze and it gives me chills) But that fear did something great too. The fear of losing my son finally jolted me into taking action. And now because of that one moment of fear, I have everything I’ve ever wanted and deserved.

Host: I’m so glad for you Maria. You look so happy… you are radiating! You deserve all the love and joy in your life. Your story is so heartbreaking and yet inspiring. It made me cry from both sadness and happiness. Your courage is to be admired and I hope someone will find strength from you story into taking action and living they life they deserve.

Maria: (She smiles, quickly wiping a stray tear from her cheek) thank you, I hope so too.

Host: So what now? Now that you’ve gotten your happily ever after, what’s next in Maria Greer’s inspiring life.

Maria: (she chuckles, a tint of pink spreading over her cheeks) Well, I’m currently studying psychology. I’d like to become a counselor for domestically abused women and children. I’d like to help in anyway I can, and as you said inspire them to live the life they deserve. And well… (The pink in her cheeks grows crimson. She looks up and smiles. I look behind and standing there with a huge goofy grin on his face is her hot lawyer husband Dave. He moves into the room, lifts Maria up. Taking her seat he settles her on his lap.)

Host:  Are you saying what I think you are saying? (Maria turns, hiding her face behind her gorgeous hair making Dave laugh. He moves his hand to her belly and she places hers over his.)

Dave: What do you think we are saying?

And like a good journalist I sat there, keeping my cool when all I wanted to do was jump up and down and shriek excitedly, and waited for him to say the words. I need the confirmation, right from the horse’s mouth per say. Drawing conclusions without proof is bad business for us.

But Dave just kept smiling at me- and I’m sure that’s what nabbed Maria, that dangerous sexy smile- not saying a word. I didn’t push, I didn’t nag and when he stood up tacking Maria into his side, I knew the man was a sadist at heart. Dave Greer led his wife out of my interview room with a quick ‘bye’ and creating a journalist’s worst nightmare when he said ‘take a wild guess’.

Two New Releases from Author M.O.Kenyan

Hi All!

My sister and author of Shades Of Spring has released two more books today! I host her today and ask her a few question so that her readers can get to know her better.

Enjoy!

Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?

I am a daughter, a sister and a lover of life.

Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Basketball, music and watching series. Right now I am watching One Tree Hill. I love the #Nailey romance.

What is your daily routine as far as when you have an idea for your story?

When I get an idea I write it down on my note book. I build up on the idea until I am ready to write the story. I have learnt that rushing into a premature concept, doesn’t help. It only stalls the progress of the story.

Where do you get your ideas from?

From life. I think every author just writes about life in their own way. Sure, not everyone will have some wisdom or life lesson. But we write both what we know and what we don’t know. Its basically life and for a few days, weeks or months we are our characters, experiencing life through them.

Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, what would be your favorite and why?

I think my favorite is yet to come.

But right now the story closest to my heart is DENOUEMENT, being released on the 9th of July.

Tell us something funny about yourself that not a lot of people know about?

I am a bit out there. People who don’t know me say that I am quiet. People who do know that in my mind is a mouse on a wheel.

Does any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?

Life experiences. Even if its fantasy, I believe including something that happened brings it closer to reality. Even if its just a paragraph, scene of chapter. If my readers read all my books back to back, I think they could probably piece together an important moment in my life.

Does your ‘muse’ have a name and if so what is his/her name?

My muse is the world, life and the mouse in my head.

What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?

I don’t think I would change genre. Romance is my thing. Maybe when I fall in love I’ll write about  something I don’t have at the time, a G-5. But I would love to write a script.

Who are your favorite authors that are out now?

Jamallah, M.J Kane, Delaney Diamond, Stephanie Meyers and I have to include the person or people who wrote the One Tree Hill story. I won’t get into depth with that, but you can read about t on my blog www.mokauthor.wordpress.com. Basically I love how they developed one character in particular. He is the father that I always wanted, the boyfriend that I never had and the husband God has planned for me. Every OTH fan loves Nathan Scott.

Who is your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?

My favorite female character has to be from my book DENOUEMENT, she is just as lost as I feel sometimes. Like her I wish I could compose my life story, set a path and follow it to the end. I get lost in the darkness sometimes and that is Marietta Parks. I would love to know what comes tomorrow. But God did not intend for us to take shortcuts.

Male character has to be Reece Morgan from my 9th July release COVERT EXISTENCE. He is forgiving and gracious. He falls in love and holds on to that love. He is hopeful even though the girl he wishes to spend the rest of his life with disappears. He knows what true love looks like.

What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?

I don’t think I have reached that stage yet, where I find writing about something difficult. That requires a piece of yourself, a piece of your reality. I don’t think I have matured yet, emotionally to get to that point. That I why I hold out on writing some projects, scripts and books, that I really want to start. When I get there everyone will know it. It will be my favorite story.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?

Start small, start big. But whatever you do keep true to yourself. Do not let anyone compromise your story. It is your story and only you can tell it.

If you hadn’t become a writer, what do you think you would be doing right now?

I am in school, studying communications.

But I know that telling stories would have always been part of me. I have too many day dreams to bottle up inside. I want to write a script one day and have everyone see my story the way I saw it in my head, but in their own way.

Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?

(This is where you will put in a blurb along with an excerpt of your story. Plus  if you like you can tell us about  your next book that will be coming out and when it will be out. Also your buy links will be put out on here as well.)

The Perfect Crime: A Story of Truth or Fantasy Peter Hindley and Susan Goodsell

picThe Perfect Crime: A Story of Truth or Fantasy

Events have accurately been recorded since the time of Alan’s death; they combine to reveal an intriguing story. Did he die naturally or was he helped in some way? Has a crime or two taken place? Some may think so. Maybe there is a conspiracy; if so how far it may extend is unclear. Nothing is quite as it should be.

This unique book evolves from a simple account to a vast scandalous exposé, a true and topical account showing a fascinating view of human nature, society, and the establishment in the United Kingdom. Many questions are posed for the reader and evidence is laid bare as you take a journey of discovery.

The story and writing style changes drastically as the twists and turns in the narrative expose themselves; ultimately it reaches a logical end, but that is not the end of the story. A sequel is already underway.

Independent 1 bAbout Peter Hindley

Peter Hindley is a coach to dance competitors and is a jury member for international dance competitions. He left England in 2007 for a new life in France and has been recording events since his brother’s unconventional death in 2002.

photoAbout Susan Goodsell

Susan Goodsell, co-author and Peter’s niece, lives in England with her partner and their two now grown-up sons. She spent many years in London before returning to Kent in 1997. The year her father died she began teaching English in a secondary school; now after finishing work, she returns home to begin another shift, as a detective and writer.

Excerpt:

We have accurately recorded the events near the time of Alan Hindley’s death, who was a brother to Peter and father of Susan, the two authors of this account, and what followed; they combine to reveal an intriguing story. Did he die naturally or was he helped in some way? Has a crime or two taken place? Some may think so. Maybe there is a conspiracy; my lawyer certainly thought so; how far that conspiracy extends is unclear. We are certain that nothing is quite as it should be. Nevertheless this account shows a fascinating view of human nature, English society and the workings of the establishment in the United Kingdom. The story is so bizarre that it could well be fiction, and that is why I have added “A story of truth or fantasy” to the title. What is frightening is that it is all absolutely true.

The normal formalities that follow a death were not adhered to after Alan’s demise: Why the mandatory procedures were bypassed may not be evident, but during the course of our nine year account they certainly do become evident.

Why did his wife act as she did and who aided her? These and so many other questions will become apparent.

In this case what is certain now is that the will and wishes of the deceased, Alan Edward Hindley of Paignton, Devon, has not been adhered to and the UK law and establishment did nothing to aid its rectification: The laws relating to Wills are fatally flawed and the government is fully aware of that. As named executors we have been denied the right to execute his wishes. You may think this is not possible, but it is, and it has proved to be absolutely legal.

His wife, Wendy, acted as sole executor of her husband’s Last Will and Testament without the other two named executors and we reveal how simple it is to do just that. Why she felt this was necessary will ultimately be disclosed. You will learn how the solemn duty of executing a will can be mal administered in a totally legal way and without fear of retribution.

We have experienced many twists and turns along our path of discovery and these have been reflected in both the different styles and structure of the book. Our journey has taken us to numerous office doors and has led us into the heart of the halls of government, where events have made it very apparent that what we were witnessing was true injustice and unchecked corruption within the United Kingdom. It is for this reason that we felt it necessary to pen our story, to be able to share our account with you and all our other readers, who have been reading an abridged account on the Internet since May 2008; it is very much in the public’s interest to be aware of what can go wrong and does go very wrong daily.

We have been told that Alan died in his home during the evening of 14th March 2002 in more than one place, and all on the same night, the last time anything vaguely like this happened was two thousand years ago (please forgive the last statement, it is not meant to offend); but first a little background information about the family.

Moreno Brothers by Elizabeth Reyes

Hi all! I cam across this series because my sister wouldn’t shut up about it so I picked up a copy. I definitely saw the appeal.

Books in this series, Forever Mine, Always Been Mine, Sweet Sofie, Romero, Making You Mine.MB-banner

With this series each story is different and unique. the characters in these books grow and the readers need to grow with them to understand how the changes in these relationships.

Forever Mine is the first in the series about Sarah and Angle and just about teenage romance, Making You Mine is the last book and it’s adult and the best part is it includes a nice finale of how everyone ended up after 3years.  The snip bit about Angel and Sarah was both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

The books are intense, juvenile, annoying, comical, wonderful… just an all round series that you will definitely want to read.

My top 3 in the series:

1. Forever Mine

2. Making You Mine

3. Romero

Always Been Mine is the second in the series, then Sweet Sofie and recently released Romero is the fourth. Making You Mine is the fifth in the series and will be available tentatively this December 2011. I already have another series in mind for when I’m done with this one. I will have more info sneak and peeks of that series which will be out in 2012. But I have so many other stories screaming to be told I only wish I could write faster!

I love hearing from my readers and try to always respond as soon as I can, so feel free to reach out!

Christine Steendam Bio:christine

Christine has been writing stories since she could put pen to paper and form words. Now, many years later, her debut novel is scheduled to be released and her second book is in the works.

Christine has spent the better half of her life owning and working with horses, and these four legged companions often find their way into her stories. After all, no work of women’s fiction would be complete without a horse or two (in Christine’s opinion at least).

She currently makes her home in the center of the world—no, really. Look at an atlas.

Heart like An Ocean:

In a society where she doesn’t belong, Senona Montez, a strong-willed and free-spirited hlowoman refuses to follow the path expected of a Don’s only child.

On the eve of her marriage to a stranger, she saddles her horse and flees everything she knows, only to discover the petty concerns of society did not prepare her for the harsh life on the open sea. She finds an unlikely protector in a reckless privateer, Brant Foxton.

Straddling the worlds of independence and privilege in 1600’s Europe, this captivating man challenges her in ways she never thought possible, shows her what living to the fullest really means, and allows her to follow her heart wherever it leads.

Heart Like An Ocean Excerpt:

hloSpain-1666

Senona looked around the room full of swirling dresses of so many shapes and colors. It was like a dream and left her overwhelmed and unable to tear her eyes away. Tonight she was a princess in her new dress with her hair curled, cascading in loose waves down her back. Tonight she was perfect.

Browsing the room, this time in search of familiar faces, Senona spotted Caton Amador, and Isidro Amato. The boys, although older, were her friends and a welcome relief to the overwhelming nature of her surroundings. She made her way around the perimeter of the room in their general direction.

Isidro was never very serious about anything and enjoyed teasing Senona, which annoyed her to no end. Caton was much more subdued and quiet, at least around her. Although they were not as close as they once had been, the families remained good friends, and the three of them spent many hours riding around the countryside or playing games in the garden. When they were younger, Isidro and Caton had been her constant companions, helping her sneak out of tea with their Madres or rescuing her from lessons with her tutor. Now they never voluntarily saw each other, but due to their families’ relationship, they found themselves together often enough.

“Senona, my Chica! You are a picture of beauty, as always,” boomed Isidro’s obnoxious and teasing voice.

Caton turned to look at the young girl. “Leave her alone, Isidro.”

“Come on, Caton. She’s glad to see us.”

Caton frowned but said nothing, turning his attention back to the pretty girl standing next to him. Isidro seemed to accept that as permission to continue, and he smirked mockingly at Senona, beckoning her. The small flock of girls that surrounded the two boys giggled, causing her to blush and become hesitant and uncomfortable. She had never seen the boys in this environment, and she quickly questioned her decision that she belonged with them.

“It’s okay, Isidro. I just wanted to say hello.”

“Well then, run along. There must be some of your friends around.”

Senona forced a smile and turned to Caton. “Hello, Caton.”

He barely acknowledged her with a brief glance and nod in her direction, and then returned to ignoring her. Unsure of how to deal with Caton’s rejection, she walked away, her eyes burning with angry tears that threatened to spill over. Why was he being so rude? Not even so much as a hello, as if he were embarrassed to be associated with her.

As she pushed her way through the crowd, she heard one of the girls laugh. “Caton, I do believe you hurt her feelings.”

Caton’s deep, unmistakable chuckle cut through the din and his voice was all she heard. “She’s a silly, strange girl. I would rather not encourage her.”

Senona expected this behavior from Isidro, but from Caton? She had always thought he was honest and simple, but his actions tonight had shown her otherwise. She had been a fool to think that these older boys were her friends.

Escaping into the shadows, she hid from the sneering glances and mocking laughter that seemed to follow her wherever she went. She had thought that tonight would be different, but nothing had changed. She was just a strange little girl.

The night was a blur, a blur of swirling skirts and obnoxious voices. To nearly everyone she was invisible. Even her Madre and Padre, who had never been overly affectionate towards their daughter, seemed to have completely forgotten her existence. But that wasn’t so different from normal. They weren’t very affectionate people ever, even towards each other.

At the end of the night, Senona lay in bed, her new dress hanging in her wardrobe, mocking her. She had realised tonight how far she fell from society’s standards, her own parents’ standards. Any illusion she had of being a princess, of being perfect for one night had been shattered. But that didn’t really bother her. The truly odd thing was that she felt a weight lifted from her shoulders. Perhaps she didn’t have to be that way. Perhaps now she had the freedom to do as she wanted. It wasn’t as if anyone cared about her anyway. She was just a strange little girl.

Featured Poem in Fatal Jealousy

In almost all my books there is a poem featured: In Star Bright- Invictus by William Ernest Hensley and In Fatal Jealousy is Hoar’s (Forgotten Realms) Dungeons & Dragons.

Hoar (pronounced HORE), is a fictional Faerûnian deity of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. He is the deity of revenge, retribution and poetic justice.

Hoar is actually the ancient Untheric deity worshiped in the eastern Inner Sea lands as Assuran. Centuries past he was driven from Unther by Ramman, although his cult remained strong in Chessenta. He eventually slew his rival during the Time of Troubles, but Anhur stole Ramman’s unclaimed portfolio before Hoar could act, earning Hoar’s ire. Both Tyr and Bane contested for Hoar’s tormented soul, as the Dark God sought to turn him into a servant of blind vengeance and bitterness while the Maimed God sought to unlock Hoar’s bittersweet humor and shift his portfolio to favor irony and poetic justice. With Tyr’s death, Bane has recruited Hoar as an exarch. Meanwhile, Hoar conspires with Beshaba in unleashing bad luck on the deserving.

Uphold true and fitting justice and maintain the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law. Fitting recompense will always accrue for one’s actions. Violence will meet violence and evil pay back evil, but good will also come to those who do good. Walk the line of the Doombringer’s teachings, seeking retribution, but do not fall into the trap of pursuing evil acts for evil’s sake, for that way is seductive and leads only to one’s downfall. Vengeance must be sought for all injustices, and all punishments must fit the crime. Revenge is sweetest when it is sharpened with irony. All attacks must be avenged. Those who do not respond to attacks against their person or that which they hold dear only invite further attacks.
