Fatal Jealousy Cover

It’s finally here!!! The books cover to my next book Fatal Jealousy is finally out!!

Thank you Viola and 5 Prince family for helping making it work.Blurb for Fatal Jealousy:

Twins Ellsa and Ellie are completely different in character, personality, taste and interests. Apart from the striking resemblance to each other, they share the one thing siblings shouldn’t…. the same taste in men.

They keep falling for the same man, creating a quiet rivalry between them. Determined not to let a man come between them ever again, Ellie and Ellsa agree to stay away from each others relationships. But when they meet Dale Carson, an FBI agent and a bachelor, their love lives are turned upside down.

But they aren’t the only ones taken by the rogue. His partner and long time lover, Gwen Johansson, also called dibs.

Carson is interested in only one of them. He is pulled by Ellie’s passion for love and art, and most importantly, him. What starts as a sexual chase, ends with his permanent retirement from bachelorhood.

But their love story is not a smooth one.

Carson’s day job comes knocking on his front door and before he knows it, his whole world is ripped apart.

Out of all the possible suspects, Ellie has the most evidence stacked up against her. She is implicated in the brutal murders of her ex-boyfriends, and Carson is faced with the horror of arresting the love of his life. With two suspects of his own, he is convinced she is being set up, but he has no way of proving it.

Constructive and Bad Reviews

I’ve always shared the really great reviews on Star Bright because they always felt like a pat on the shoulder and a Brava that I wanted to share with my readers.

And now- foolish or not- I’m going to share the only two bad/critical reviews Star Bright has gotten. These two reviews are my motivators to do better, and they also remind me that I can’t please everyone.

Not everyone is going to love your story, some with genuine reason and others just because…

Authors should try and not take it personally because that’s how life is. You never know, some good may come out of these bad reviews. You just have to remember not to blow up at the readers.

Out of my bad review, another reader read it and she said she would read Star Bright because of the gracious way I responded to it and she liked the book.

So authors, before you respond to a bad review, take a deep breathe, count to ten, pull up a fake smile and write ‘thank you for taking the time to read and review my book. I’m sorry you did not enjoy it’ then you can curse the guy out, out loud!!

And readers you need to understand the difference between a critical helpful review and a spiteful hateful review. There is no need to bash an author because you think its fun. How would you like it if someone torn apart something you’ve worked so hard on with no constructive criticism?

So if you can’t write a constructive review, please don’t write anything!!

Constructive Critical Review

“I had decided to read this book after seeing it posted on one of the boards I frequent. I went to the

author’s website and read an excerpt first. From what I read, it sounded interesting and worth a read. However, after nine chapters, I just could not read it any longer. I was 100+ pages into the book but was not invested enough in the characters or the story to continue. There were several reasons why this book made it to my DNF (Did Not Finish) list. Here they are in no particular order:

1. It was evident that the book had not been professionally edited. There were instances where the wrong word was used, the grammar was incorrect, and there were many inconsistencies that I think an editor would’ve caught.

2. Advice that is often given to writers is to write what they know. It is evident that the author was writing about places she does not know, and she did not do her homework.

3. There are gaps and inconsistencies that made me feel confused. A few times I went back and reread passages just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. It was frustrating.

4. Finally, some things were just not believable. For instance, Michael is supposed to be four years old, but he is way too mature for his age.

While I appreciate that the author has a story to tell and I applaud her courage to put pen to paper, a good copy editor could’ve helped with many of these issues and the end result would have been a much more pleasurable read

Mean dude!

This book was very hard to get through, even though the plot concept was good. There were so many scenes that were just unbelievable for a book set in the present. For example, a woman, Maria, and her five year old son, are trying to get away from her abusive boyfriend. They move to New York City and meet a high profile lawyer, Dave. Maria meets Dave when he gets into an argument with his estranged wife in the restaurant where Maria works. Dave and his wife have such a heated exchange, that they leave their baby daughter ON the table in the restaurant and leave her there until Dave, who has custody, gets back to his office and realizes he doesn’t have the baby anymore. And this guy is a super lawyer and highly looked up to. Forgetting his child, doesn’t fit his character! Also, after Maria knows Dave for only two days, he goes to pick her son up from the day care without her permission, and the workers at the day care ask no questions and allow him to take the boy. The day care calls Maria only after the boy has already been taken from their care. This would never happen in New York City! There were other incidents that were equally as confusing. The wording of some of the sentences and the lack of editing of this book were very distracting too. And it kept going on and on! I don’t understand the 4 and 5 star ratings from the other reviewers.

M. J. KANE…. 5 Prince Publishing Author

M.J. Kane stumbled into writing. An avid reader, this stay at home mom never lost the overactive imagination of an only child. As an adult she made up stories, though never shared them, to keep herself entertained. It wasn’t until surviving a traumatic medical incident in 2006 that she found a reason to let the characters inhabiting her imagination free.  Upon the suggestion of her husband, she commandeered his laptop and allowed the characters to take life. It was that, or look over her shoulder for men caring a purple strait jacket. And the rest, as they say, is history.

No longer a television addict, if M.J. isn’t reading a book by one of her favorite authors, she’s battling with her creative muse to balance writing and being a wife and mother. She resides in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia with her high school sweetheart, four wonderful children, and two pit bulls. MJ can often be found hanging out at the local library where she is director of a local writer’s group, or online connecting with readers and other authors. Other activities she enjoys include: creating custom floral arrangements, assisting her children in their creative pursuits of music and art, and supporting her husband’s music production business, 3D Sounds.

M.J. KANE……… A HEART NOT EASILY BROKEN

A Heart Not Easily Broken is about Ebony is a smart, sexy, career-oriented black woman who wants nothing more than a summer fling with a man who challenges her mind and body. What she doesn’t expect is a blond haired, blue-eyed bass player—who won’t take “no” for an answer—to accept the challenge.

When Ebony’s attempt at a brief fling turns into more, despite negative reactions from friends and family, she finds juggling love, family, and career are nothing compared to the ultimate betrayal she endures. Now her dreams spiral into lies and secrets that threaten her future and her best friend’s trust.

Excerpt from A Heart Not Easily Broken:

The song ended, and I opened my eyes to cheer with the rest of the crowd. I was noticed all right. Various men in my immediate vicinity threw out catcalls and whistles, which were flattering, but the drummer paid me no attention. In fact, no one in the band seemed to notice me, except for one man.

One of the guitar players watched me intently. Astonished, I nearly stumbled in my heels. He was attractive but… he was white, not what I was aiming for. My lips tilted in a small smile before I moved out of his line of sight, placing myself in front of dancers who’d moved closer to the stage blocking my view of the drummer.

The next song played, and again, I tried to get lost in the music. My eyes closed, it was impossible to find my groove again without feeling stalked. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, drawing my attention down the length of the stage and to the guitar player, who once again, watched me with a predatory gleam in his eye. When the song ended, I worked my way back to the bar.

Neither Yasmine nor Kaitlyn were there.  They must have gone to the bathroom.

“What can I get you, miss?” the bartender asked, interrupting my thoughts.

Music from the loud speakers blasted again, after the MC announced the band was taking a brief intermission.

“Margarita, extra shot of tequila, please.” The bartender nodded and went to fill my order.

“Did you get a load of the blond guitar player? He’s hot!”

My attention turned to a busty brunette who’d taken up temporary residence in the empty seat next to me. I recognized her as being one of the women who’d been dancing next to me. She adjusted her boobs, primping while talking to her friend.

“He doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going home with him tonight,” she continued. Her friend giggled.

Good luck. She had a better chance than I did of finding a man tonight.

“Here you go.” The bartender placed a napkin in front of me with my drink.

“I’ve got this,” a deep voice said close to my ear, making me jump. It was incredibly sexy despite the fact it scared me. It also sent a warm tingle down my spine. Intrigued, I turned and found myself face-to-face with the guitar player. The same one my barstool neighbor wanted to go home with.

Any sort of coherent words failed me.

Carmen DeSousa…. Entangled Dreams

This is Carmen DeSousa’s third book with 5 Prince Publishing, ENTANGLED DREAMS. Life is not a fairy tale and again, Carmen brings to us likeable characters who are flawed and the reader cheers them on until the end.

When Alexandra Nicole was eight, she thought she was a princess in a fairytale. But after a tragic accident shatters her magical life, she finds herself in a cold and heartless reality.
As an adult, she once again faces harsh truths and decides to take control of her destiny. Unfortunately, choices have a way of entangling her dreams and pushing her down a dark and dismal path.
Alexandra must trust her instincts to escape danger, but be able to surrender all to find her happily ever after. Knowing how to decipher the difference, will be her toughest challenge.
For more about Carmen DeSousa click here and here and checkout previous posts on her.
Enjoy the prologue of ENTANGLED DREAMS

 Prologue
As a child, Alexandra Nicole was a princess in a fairytale. Her royal family would spend every Sunday on the pristine beaches of Destin together. Her father, the king, would carry her on his shoulders, pretending to be her noble steed as he pranced around at her behest. He would battle dragons, the vicious Chihuahua that chased them; conquer new worlds, also known as a sand dune further down the beach; and build elaborate castles, well actually, sandcastles.
If her father was the king, then her mother was most definitely the queen. She would laugh softly under her umbrella as she watched Alexandra and her father roll in the gentle surf. When her mother did venture into the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico, her long, platinum hair would blow softly in the breeze, her blue eyes sparkled like the water below her, and her skin glistened from the ever-present sunshine in their lives.
But alas, as in any good fairytale, everything good and wonderful must come to an end.
After the tragic accident that snatched her mother away from Alexandra, her father moved them away from the beaches of Destin to another beach in Florida. Cocoa Beach.
Cocoa Beach was loud, the water murky, and there were no weekend adventures as there had been in Destin.
Her father married her evil stepmother, Lilith, who Alexandra was certain was a witch with her long, black as midnight hair and pale-white skin as if she’d never seen sunlight. Her father had admitted he wasn’t in love with Cruella, as she had come to think of the witchy woman, but that he’d wanted Alexandra to have a mother and siblings.
Well, she definitely got that.
The king started staying out later and later at night, and the princess had to do excessive amounts of chores around her new castle. Her stepmother treated her like a pariah; certainly, she’d rather have the dogs at their dinner table. Her stepsisters were ugly inside and out and were forever jealous of Alexandra and her golden-blonde tresses. Anything nice Alexandra ever received mysteriously disappeared.
Alexandra knew something was wrong with her father, but she was too young to understand. Her father, forever the happy-go-lucky guy, had turned to drinking to drown his troubles.
It sounds like your typical fairytale, but it isn’t. There are no furry creatures to help the princess prepare a gown for the prom, no fairy godmother to waive her magic wand and produce glass slippers. In fact, at age sixteen Alexandra found herself living on her own with no family contact and no prospects of a healthy, normal life.
Alexandra had only one advantage, if you could call it that. Alexandra was beautiful. But so far, her beauty had not opened any doors; actually, it had only caused her misery.
The only people who welcomed Alexandra were the outcasts. The parents of other losers in school fortunately didn’t care who slept over and what they did when they stayed the night. So, Alexandra Nicole, now deciding to go by Nicky, as she was no longer a princess, found herself wandering from house to house throughout her remaining high school years.

And then she met him…

Anya Bast… The Otherkin Werewolf Lover #3

Anya Bast is the author of numerous STEAMY HOT paranormal novels and of course my favourite werewolf, the Otherkin Fury and Tranquility.

These books are short but worth every page. It echoes dominance, strength, sex and kind of love. the immediate sexual attraction doesn’t really say ‘I’m sooo in love with you wolfy’, but she builds it to love. It is kind of like, ‘you know your mate by how hot and heavy he or she gets you’,and it does not disappoint!

it’s about the two Nathy brothers, one, Merrick, who has no problem being Alpha because the woman he loves has been chosen to be Alpha female of their pack. And the other, Roane, too eager not to be Alpha, steps aside for his brother, leaves the pack only to find himself in a predicament, involving a hot chick and her insecure brother.

Fury- Nikki is a cougar shifter living in a werewolf world. When she’s promised as a mate to a wolf shifter named Merrick, the fur flies. Cats are solitary and proud. No way will she be tamed, not even if Merrick’s touch drives her insane with need.
But Merrick has wanted Nikki for a long time and there’s no way he’s letting her go. He’ll use every dark and erotic trick he knows to seduce her body…and then win her heart.

Tranquility-Roane leaves the Fury werewolf pack to make room for his brother, Merrick, and his new mate. A natural alpha, there’s nowhere Roane can go in wolf country and not stir up trouble. He settles in a town called Tranquility and immediately raises the hackles of the local pack leader.
Even worse, Roane gets one look at Scarlet, the pack leader’s sister, and will do anything to possess her. Scarlet tries to resist him, but his touch inflames desire she can barely control. And that means heaps of trouble for both of them.

This short stories are FREE and offered by New York Times bestselling author, Anya Bast. Tranquility is part two of a two part series.

Book Review UNDERNEATH

Hi. I got this book, UNDERNEATH BY MICHAEL CARGILL to review from GoodReads and thought I should share it with you. if you’ve always wondered what goes on in a psychopath’s mind, this is the book to give you that experience.

Description

Look at the person sitting just across from you. It doesn’t matter whether they’re a loved one, a friend, or a complete stranger.

Now look at their face. Are they happy? Are they sad? Or are they angry? Can you even tell?

How well do you actually know the people closest to you?

Have you ever seen the real person that lies just underneath what you see…?

Here are two reviews from Smashwords that will inspire you to read this psychological thriller

‘Ok I’ll try this again…
What a terrifying premise. An anger management failure, psycho, with what seems like memory loss, he can’t even remember why he walks from one room to another let alone why one thing set him off 5 seconds ago.
This is not someone you would want to cross paths with, EVER!
This took a bit to get into but, once we are introduced to the 2 ” coppers” who investigate the swath of destruction left in his wake, Angela the college student who thinks she is in love, and Jane, the mom who is convinced that her missing son has been kidnapped the richly woven threads of this tale take a decidedly even more dastardly turn.
I loved the way this just descended into a black comedy of stalking, insanity and murder most foul, body dumping optional!’

‘Hugh seems like your average hardworking man that is polite, takes care of himself, and goes to the gym to workout. Hugh seems to blend into the crowd unnoticed which suits him just fine. Constables Clare and Robert are hardworking police officers that are working on seemingly unrelated cases at the grocery store, local college, and missing teenage boy. Abigal meets Hugh on the train and the two meet up for drinks. Abigal briefly sees something lurking behind Hugh’s eyes then thinks she imagined it. Abigal and Hugh become close which pleases Hugh. Constables Clare and Robert get a surprising lead from missing teenage boy’s friend that he and his friends hang out at an apartment building. The boy says that a creepy guy chases them off. Will Abigal figure out what Hugh is hiding? Will Constables Clare and Robert solve their cases? Where does Hugh fit into all of this? Do you know what is lurking Underneath?’

The book is available on Smashwords and if you are interested I have 10 copies to give away. just write down your name and email on my comment section.

Encouraging Reviews for STAR BRIGHT

I have two reviews from two Goodreads readers that I have to share with everyone!!

From Elsa

“Oh My Gosh!!!! Loved it, Loved it!!!

Good story about domestic abuse and how it can make a person realize they are stronger than they think and how a mother sacrifices her happiness for her family. It’s not all negative; it has more happy moments than sad and a very good ending!!! I recommend this read and am giving it five starts, if I could give more than this story deserves them all. This is a page turner and something is always happening it will blow your mind.

Maria is a battered female that lives with her abusive husband Ricky, her mother and her 4 yr old son. She has lived with the abuse for so long that it has progressively gotten worse over the years. So Maria either has to leave or let Ricky kill her and her child. You will not believe all the hell Maria goes threw with this crazy man. She is always looking behind her and then she is looking over her shoulder constantly afraid of her own shadow. Until she meets Dave and he promises her something huge!!!! Dave comes into the picture with his crazy wife Amy another pair made in hell!!! Amy and Ricky are made for each other and should have married instead of the other two unfortunate soles they ended up with. Beautiful Izzy is an angel and Michel is a strong smart four year old boy who is very protective of those he loves and brave when he stands up to his father.

You fall in love with Dave and his kindness and his being rich does not hurt either, can I keep him? Beautiful story, I could not put it down, a keeper on my shelves.”

From Susan

“Wow, this was an intense read! I couldn’t stop turning the pages and got so wrapped up in Maria’s story right from the first page! Then we meet Dave and I was totally into his story too! These two people went through so much garbage and you just had to wonder if they were ever going to find peace and happiness.

I would recommend this book to everyone and can’t wait to read more by this author! She knows how to grab your attention and she does not let go. Great job Christina and good luck!”

Good reviews are like a pat on the authors back that encourages more dedication towards the readers. But ‘bad reviews’ which I call teaching reviews encourages authors, authors who choose to learn from it, to do better.

So I would like to thank everyone who’s taken their time to read and review Star Bright.

I’m not sure for how long, but Star Bright is still free on Smashwords
